(Dick) and Conrad D. bought their first interest in the company.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #333333; font-size: 1.1em; letter-spacing: 0px;\">In 1972, Henry reached retirement age and sold his interest to his sons.\u00a0 Two years later, Richard E. also retired leaving Conrad and Dick as sole owners.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">In 1970, Tri-State Ready Mix was started with the opening of a new plant in Larchwood, Iowa. \u00a0In 1980, the plant in Canton, S.D. opened.\u00a0 In 1990, Conrad and Dick formed a partnership with Arlon Sandbulte of Joe\u2019s Ready Mix. \u00a0This new company bought the plant in Rock Rapids, Iowa (known as Rapids Ready Mix) and the plant in Beresford, S.D. (known as Beresford Ready Mix) in 1996.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">In 1970, the company started to manufacture precast concrete products such as feed bunks, well curbs, and hog slats.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">In 1993, Conrad and Dick sold a small interest of the company to their sons, Chad and Mike.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">In 1997, Conrad and Dick decided to retire, and sold the rest of their shares to Chad and Mike.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">In 2002, Chad and Mike reorganized the company and joined Rock Valley Cement Block &amp; Tile and Tri State Ready Mix.\u00a0 The new parent company is called Van Zee Enterprises, with divisions named Valley Sand &amp; Gravel, Tri-State Ready Mix, and Rock Valley Block &amp; Tile.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">In July 2004, Chad &amp; Mike purchased Top Construction, Inc. from Steve Van Den Top.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">In April 2006, the block division of Rock Valley Block &amp; Tile was sold and that division was renamed Rock Valley Precast.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">In April 2008, Tri-State Ready Mix bought Arlon\u2019s share of Beresford Ready Mix and dissolved that company.\u00a0 That plant is now owned solely by Tri-State Ready Mix.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">In September 2010, the tankers from Tri-State Ready Mix were transferred into their own company becoming Material Services, Inc.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">In February 2012, Tri-State Ready Mix purchased the plant at Hospers, IA. Previously known as Herringa Ready Mix.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">In March 2012, Tri-State Ready Mix purchased the other half of Rapids Ready Mix from Arlon Sandbulte and merged Rapids and Tri-State together. \u00a0Tri-State Ready mix now has 6 locations:<\/span><\/p><ul><li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Rock Valley, IA<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Rock Rapids, IA<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Larchwood, IA<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Hospers, IA<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Canton, SD<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Beresford, SD<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">In October 2012, a 10,000 square foot addition was added to the Precast Building and additional bunk forms were purchased to increase bunk production.
